Introduction to the Cohort
In 1995, investigators used data from the Healthcare Financing Administration to identify, invite and enroll Medicare recipients living in Cache County, Utah, USA into the Cache County Study, a longitudinal study AD, dementia and risk factors for these conditions. Of the 5,092 enrollees, 4,559 were free of dementia at baseline assessment. Follow-up evaluations have occurred approximately every three years since baseline. Cohort members were aged 65 years or older in January 1995; 57% were female. The population of Cache County is characterized by its high prevalence of Mormons and low prevalence of both smoking and alcohol use.

Ethnicity Breakdown
Nearly all members (99%) of the Cache County Study cohort are white.
